The inittab file is composed of entries that are position dependent and have the following format: id::rstate::action::processEach - This document presents methods of building and operating Oracle Solaris 11. Audience - People who have a basic knowledge of Oracle Solaris - People who are referring to the Oracle Solaris 11 Overview and Design Guide Notes - The contents of this document are based on Oracle Solaris 11.3. For the latest information on Oracle This method uses Solaris Automated Installer services, and assumes your systems are on the same VLAN (refer to the Oracle doco for more complicated environments). I have a Solaris Image Packaging Server already available (see IPS Server section below), with the repo shared via HTTP, and I'll also use that as the AI server. Solaris Init Script This script is rather shamelessly based on the RedHat init script, but it is stripped down, because Solaris does not have all of those funky shell script functions. Managing boot environments in Solaris11 is almost same as Solaris 10’s Live upgrade. In Solaris 10,we will use lu commands like lucreate, luactivate, lumount ,luumount and lustatus.

Hello all, Fairly simple question here. I know that in Solaris 10 there is a way to tell a system running solaris 10 to init 0 and then boot disk1 all in the same command line from a SSH window. That way once you hit enter it then performs the init 0 and then does the boot disk1. When we added the reevaluation and firing of .init's if any loaded objects where referenced by a dlopen(), dlopen(0) fell under the same model. And, although this model was integrated into Solaris a couple of years ago, it wasn't until recently that some existing applications were observed to fail because of the .init reevaluation. The init Phase. Objective: The init phase has undergone major changes in Solaris 10.

From the -> prompt in the control domain, type: Solaris : Troubleshooting startup (rc init) scripts By admin After kernel starts the svc.startd daemon during boot process, svc.startd daemon executes the rc scripts in the /sbin directory based upon the run level. init 3: It is default run level in SOLARIS. In this run level all the use logins, terminal logins, file system and all services are enabled including NFS. Note: In SOLARIS 9 we can change the default run level by editing /etc/inittab file. But from SOLARIS 10 it is not possible, because this file acts as a script which is under control of SMF. Solaris is usually used as a server operating system. Because of this, you want to make sure that you shut the system down as gracefully as possible to ensure there isn’t any data loss.
Thanks, NIrav
Because /sbin/init is directly responsible for starting all other processes when Solaris boots, it's known as a parent process. Spawned processes are called children or child processes. One of the first things that /sbin/init does is to look at the /etc/inittab file to see which other processes need to be started and what order they should be started in. Init levels (solaris 10) /etc/init.d/…..
